Henrietta Dog Park at Lookup Park

Henrietta’s dog park at Lookup Park is part of Monroe County’s Dog Park System and is located at 3850 East Henrietta Road (between Route 90 and Spring Blossom Circle).  The Henrietta Dog Park provides a legal recreational outlet environment for leash-free dogs, enabling dogs to interact and socialize with other dogs, as well as providing an ability to run and get the exercise they need. In order to partake in the benefits of this year round park, you must first have your dog up to date on their rabies vaccination, have them licensed (per New York State Law), and then register for a dog park permit.

The grand opening of the Henrietta Dog Park was held on July 25, 2014.  The Henrietta Dog Park is all grass and is split into two areas: a 1.59 acre large dog park (for all dogs) and a 0.72 acre small dog park (for dogs under 25 pounds). The park is open year round from 7:00 a.m. to dusk and it features both shade and sun seating areas and an area to wash your dog. The Henrietta Park Staff re-stocks the dog waste bag dispensers, empties the waste receptacles, and performs any necessary maintenance.

The Dog Park is self-monitoring; there are no Park Staff assigned to monitor the Park activity. If you witness or experience a dangerous or unlawful situation, you are advised to call 911.

The Henrietta Dog Park is open from 7 a.m. to dusk year round.
As of March 9, 2026, the Henrietta Dog Park is set to lock at 7:30 p.m.

To register for the dog park, you will need to bring in a copy of the valid dog licensing paperwork and proof of a valid rabies vaccination showing the date of vaccination and whether it is a 1 year or 3 year vaccine.  If the dog is licensed in the Town of Henrietta and our records show that the rabies vaccination is up to date, you do not need to bring this paperwork with you.

For the complete list of rules and guidelines, please see the Henrietta Dog Park Rules.

The fence at the Henrietta Dog Park is 6-feet tall.

Monroe County Dog Parks are open from 7:00 a.m. until dusk year-round. There are no lights at the dog park. The dog park may close without notice for maintenance and/or repairs.

The water fountains will be closed from late fall to early spring to prevent water lines from freezing. Please plan on bringing your own water during this time period.

Dog Park permits expire December 31st. You will need to register your dog(s) each year to receive your new registration tag and permit.

By requiring dogs to need a registration tag and permit, we are able to ensure that all dogs are licensed and have been vaccinated for rabies.

The only vaccine required by New York State Law is the Rabies Vaccine. However, you may wish to discuss the following with your veterinarian before bringing your dog to a dog park:

  • DHPP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza, Parvo) Vaccine
  • Leptospirosis Vaccine
  • Kennel Cough (Bordetella) Vaccine
  • Flea and Tick prevention
  • Heartworm prevention

You may register all dogs licensed to you at your current address. The dog park permit fee must be paid for each dog.

No.

Replacement tags are available at the Town Clerk's Office for $5 during normal business hours. You must bring a copy of your current dog park permit.

To protect the integrity of the Dog Parks, ONE swipe card is issued. Upon request, ONE additional swipe card may be purchased for an additional $10 from the Town Clerk's Office.  There is no additional charge for households with two or more memberships. There is a maximum of two swipe cards issued per household. Lost/Damaged card replacements are $10 per card.

Dog parks are neutral ground for most dogs and to keep it this way, never bring your dog into the off-leash area while on a leash. The double gated system allows you to enter a safe area at which time you can unleash your dog prior to entering the off-leash area. Once in the park, move away from the gate so that other dogs aren't intimidated at the entrance.

When you are done in the off-leash area, bring your dog into the double gated area before re-leashing your dog. Always be sure to secure the gate behind you and check to make sure all gates are secure before bringing your dog into the double gated area to leash or unleash.

Monroe County Parks Department has tested punching a hole in the middle of one of the short sides along the edge and after doing so, the access card still worked. However, we still recommend getting a sleeve to put the card in, because if you punch a hole in the card you do so at your own risk; if the card becomes damaged and no longer works, the fee to replace the card would apply. An additional tip for you to consider is that the cards will typically read through a wallet or small billfold, which would prevent you from having to repeatedly take the card out and risk losing it.

Monroe County Parks Department has advised that access cards do not need to be kept away from other cards or magnets.

This is strictly a safety issue. While some dogs may be slow and gentle, toy breeds in particular can easily be harmed. The dog park needs to be safe for dogs of all sizes.

The dog park is for dogs and owners. Small children take attention away from your dog, and children aren't always a good mix with fast moving large dogs or little scrappy dogs. It is important for owners to concentrate on their dog(s) and make the dog parks as safe as possible for everyone.

Food is one of the most common aggressive triggers with dogs. While there may be no intention of dropping a piece of doughnut or sandwich, crumbs can easily lead to acts of aggression.

These collars are very easy for other dogs to get tangled in while playing. For the dog's safety it is important to take these collars off before entering the dog park.

Puppies under six (6) months of ager are not permitted in the dog park for two primary reasons.

1) Their play may offend older or more aggressive dogs.

2) They aren't old enough to have their full series of puppy vaccinations.

If you are looking to socialize your puppy in a safe setting, please look for puppy classes or puppy daycare.

If any part of the dog park needs service or is broken, please call the Henrietta Dispatcher at (585) 359-7005.

Owners who allow their dogs to enter the dog park without having the proper permit and registration tag are in violation of the Monroe County Parks Law and subject to potential fines and/or imprisonment.

As the Monroe County Dog Parks are self-patrolled, it is everyone’s responsibility to keep our parks safe for registered users. Please ask the owner if the dog has a permit. The registration tag could have fallen off or maybe the owner forgot the right collar. Use this opportunity to be an ambassador for the dog parks. If the tag has broken, let the owner know where they can get a new one. If the dog isn’t registered, let the owner know how easy it is to register their dog and how the registration fee helps us all.

Address it directly and politely. Most people do clean up after their dogs, so they may not have noticed their dog relieving him/herself. Let the person know what happened and where. Unfortunately, some owners may still not clean up after their dog. In order to keep the park clean, safe and sanitary, there may be a need for you to pick up the waste. Please know from all dog park users how thankful we are for your extra effort keeping our dog park clean and safe.

The best way to prevent a fight is to never let your dog leave your sight. Scuffles happen as part of play, so watch your dog’s behavior and body language. If you notice a dog becoming aggressive, ask the owner to remove the dog from the park to cool down or go home for the day. If the owner is not receptive, remove your dog promptly from the park. If your dog begins to behave aggressively or plays too rough, take your dog out of the play area to cool down. As always, if a situation becomes dangerous, call 911.

Remain calm. Loud yelling, screaming, and/or quick movements can unintentionally increase arousal. Never get in between two dogs fighting or you can risk injury to yourself. Many experts suggest diverting the dogs with a loud noise such as an air horn or a blast of water from a sports bottle. There will be many scuffles as dogs will be dogs. Dog fights are rare in dog parks, but the potential is there. Please talk with your veterinarian if you have concerns about breaking up a dog fight involving your dog. If your dog is involved in a dog fight, exchange information with the other owner. Be sure to include your name, phone numbers, and vaccination records. If your dog is not involved in the fight, remove your dog from the off-leash area. As a courtesy, you should remain nearby until the situation is under control and make sure everyone (dogs and people) are all okay. If any of the dogs involved in the incident are clearly aggressive or dangerous, call 911.
