Historic Site Committee

According to the Historic Sites Ordinance, the purpose of designating Historic Sites is to promote the educational, cultural, economic and general welfare of the Town of Henrietta. The Historic Site Committee was established to carry out the preservation of historic or architecturally worthy buildings, structures, streetscapes and neighborhoods. They do this by recommending designation of local historic sites in the town and by promoting general events that may focus on preservation or history. To contact the Historic Site Committee, email hsc [at] henriettany.gov (hsc[at]henriettany[dot]gov).

Frequently Asked Questions

The Henrietta Historical Society is a Nonprofit Organization with a mission to educate the public about the history of Henrietta, New York; to encourage community interest in the town’s history; to conduct and collect oral histories from town residents; and to serve the educational and cultural needs of Henrietta, New York.

The Historic Site Committee was established by the Henrietta Town Board in 1978 following an update to the Zoning Code pertaining to historic site designation. While the Historic Site Committee shares similar goals of the Henrietta Historical Society, its purpose is designating and protecting physical historic sites (properties) within the town. In recognition of May as National Preservation Month, the Historic Site Committee selects a historic property for the annual Architectural Heritage Award. This provides an opportunity to familiarize the community with the history of a property, as well as thanking the property owners for appreciating and caring for the historic properties in our town.
